Joint Meeting with COCM and MFIS

We know that economic conditions have affected many members of the MFIS, although training is just important today as it was yesterday!  Join us for the first Code Officials Conference of Michigan and MFIS joint training session in Grand Rapids on April 1, 2010 and its free for MFIS members.

This all day program will feature Gordon Graham as he takes a unique look at code enforcement and the risk management challenges Inspectors face each day.  This is a great opportunity to also learn with our building inspectors and officials.

  • April 1, 2010 program to start at 8: 30 am
  • The program will be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel 5700 E. 28th Street SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546.
  • MFIS Members can RSVP by sending an email to help@mfis.org and include the name of the people who will be attending.

If you would like additional information to share with your building official, direct them to the COCM web-page.

Today Michigan Fire Inspectors were well represented by members of the board and 15 general members at the ICC code changes.  The group traveled to Minnesota to work on the various code changes as it relates to the 2009 I-Code Series.  One of the main focus is the vote for residential sprinklers.  If you were not aware code change RB64 07/08 is to install residential sprinklers in homes built in accordance with the International Residential Code.  This was one of the biggest votes in ICC history.  We are proud to annouce that the code change was approved by the membership and would take place on January 1, 2011.  This would only take place if adopted by the State of Michigan through the signle state construction code act.
